Bone Bolango Regency, Kominfotik – In commemoration of the 84th Patriotic Day, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Gorontalo Province held a pilgrimage to the grave of national hero Nani Wartabone in Bube Baru Village, Suwawa District, Bone Bolango Regency, on Friday (Jan 23, 2026). The pilgrimage began with a ceremony led by the Gorontalo Regional Police Chief, Inspector General (Irjen Pol.) Widodo.
The ceremony included a formal salute, a moment of silence, and a collective prayer. It concluded with a flower-strewing tradition (tabur bunga) led by Governor Gusnar Ismail, followed by members of the Forkopimda and heads of Provincial Government Agencies (OPD). Attendees also viewed a documentary film detailing the historic events of January 23, 1942, and a biography of Nani Wartabone.
Drawing Inspiration for Development
In an interview, Governor Gusnar called for the January 23rd Patriotic Day to be a moment to draw inspiration for regional development aimed at the welfare of the people of Gorontalo. This, he noted, aligns with the ideals of the heroes who fought for independence.
He also emphasized the importance of:
Social Concern: Increasing the value of caring for one another.
Gotong Royong: Building a spirit of mutual cooperation among citizens.
Progressive Governance: Ensuring the wheels of government and society continue to move toward a “Progressive Gorontalo.”
Series of Commemorative Events
Prior to the pilgrimage, the Governor and his entourage held the official Patriotic Day ceremony at the Governor’s Residence courtyard. Additionally, the Provincial Government organized a Sacred Flag Parade (Kirab Bendera Pusaka), which saw participation from 18 youth organizations.
