Gorontalo City, Kominfotik – Governor Gusnar Ismail officially opened the 2026 Gorontalo Swimming Championship, an East Indonesia-wide swimming competition, at the Lahilote Swimming Pool in Gorontalo City on Thursday (Jan 29, 2026). Organized by the Gorontalo Provincial Aquatics Board (Pengprov Akuatik), athletes are competing for the Governor of Gorontalo’s Trophy.
The championship features 213 swimmers from five provinces: Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, and West Kalimantan. Participants are divided into seven age groups, ranging from KU-IV (ages 10 and under) to the Senior category (ages 18 and above).

Distances: Races range from 50 meters to 400 meters.

Fostering Athletic Excellence
In his opening remarks, Governor Gusnar Ismail emphasized that this championship is a testament to the dedication to athlete development in Indonesia, particularly in Gorontalo. He noted that while the trophy is a symbolic prize, the ultimate goal is the sustainable development of athletes.
He expressed his appreciation to the coaches for their continuous efforts in positively influencing the achievements of both current and future swimmers. The Governor also congratulated the Gorontalo Provincial Aquatics Board for successfully organizing the event.
Inauguration of the Aquatics Board
The event also featured the inauguration of the Gorontalo Provincial Aquatics Board for the remainder of the 2023–2027 term. The ceremony was led by the Secretary General of the Indonesian Aquatics Federation (PB Akuatik), Ali Patiwiri, officially appointing Sofian Ibrahim as the General Chairman of the provincial board.
