Bone Bolango Regency, Kominfotik – The Provincial Gov’t, in collaboration with the Gorontalo Regional Police, is striving to expand corn planting areas to support food self-sufficiency targets, particularly for corn commodities. The Chief of Gorontalo Regional Police, Inspector General Widodo stated this, during the national second-quarter grand harvest event, which was attended by President Prabowo and centered in Tuban Regency, East Java Province.
The grand harvest event, held virtually, was also attended by the Governor of Gorontalo, Gusnar Ismail, along with officials from the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum. For the Gorontalo region, the Grand Harvest took place in Molintogupo Village, South Suwawa District, Bone Bolango Regency, on Saturday (May 16, 2026).
Police Chief Widodo explained that the land expansion will utilize areas with expired Business Cultivation Rights (HGU) to be replanted with corn. Data from the Regional Office of the National Land Agency of Gorontalo Province indicates that there are 7,496 hectares of land with expired HGU status.
Furthermore, in 2026, Gorontalo Province aims to achieve a total planting area of 190,750 hectares. The progress for the corn planting area from January 1 to May 10 has already reached 20,289 hectares.

Regarding corn production in this second quarter, he noted several obstacles, particularly climate change, which has shifted planting and harvesting schedules. In addition, the harvested corn has a varying moisture content of around 14 to 20 percent, creating a strong need for drying equipment to meet the standards set by Bulog.
In a separate location, the Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Listyo Sigit Prabowo, stated that the second-quarter grand corn harvest of 2026 was carried out across 189,760 hectares of land throughout Indonesia, with a harvest potential of 1.23 million tons. A total of 100 tons of this harvest is planned to be exported to Malaysia.
The grand corn harvest was also held in conjunction with the inauguration of 10 National Police food security warehouses and the operation of 166 SPPG scattered across Indonesia by President Prabowo.
