Gorontalo Governor Gusnar Ismail, Provincial Secretary Sofian Ibrahim, the Regent of North Gorontalo, and members of the Gorontalo Provincial Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) with Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga during the KAHMI/HMI – FORHATI/KOHATI Halal Bihalal evening at the Governor’s Official Residence Hall, Wednesday (April 8, 2026).
Gorontalo City, Kominfotik – The halal bihalal gathering of KAHMI/HMI – FORHATI/KOHATI alumni and cadres with Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi served as a moment to look back on his journey as an activist. The former Chairman of HMI Denpasar (1992–1993) shared that he had failed twice while campaigning to become the General Chairman of the HMI Executive Board (PB HMI).
Despite those two unsuccessful attempts, Viva Yoga was eventually trusted to serve as the Chairman of PB HMI from 1995 to 1997. According to him, the process of developing within HMI was what shaped him into the politician he is today, eventually leading to his appointment as Deputy Minister of Transmigration under the administration of President Prabowo Subianto.
Uniquely, the halal bihalal event also became a reunion for the Regent of North Gorontalo, Thariq Modanggu—who also serves as the Coordinator of the KAHMI Gorontalo Regional Presidium—and Viva Yoga. Thariq, a former administrator of BADKO HMI (1995–1997), was once inaugurated by Yoga when the latter served as the Chairman of PB HMI.
Meanwhile, Governor Gusnar Ismail, a former Chairman of the HMI Manado Branch in 1983, expressed his pleasure in hosting the gathering for HMI alumni and cadres. He hopes that events like these can continue to be held, especially whenever state officials who are also HMI cadres visit the region.
Governor Gusnar reiterated his call for all HMI alumni and cadres to champion three specific initiatives: the expansion of Djalaluddin Airport to accommodate Hajj embarkation, the transition of IAIN Sultan Amai into a State Islamic University (UIN), and the construction of the Gorontalo Islamic Centre Grand Mosque.
